If you're having trouble uploading images to Second Skin, don't worry — most issues are quick to fix. Try the steps below in order.

1. Re-save the image file

Sometimes an image file becomes corrupted without you realising.

  • Open the image on your computer or phone

  • Save it again as a new file (e.g., “image-new.jpg”)

  • Try uploading the new version by itself

2. Turn off 'Live mode'

  • If you are using an iPhone, try turning off live mode when taking your photo

3. Use a Private/Incognito browser window

Browser extensions or cached files can occasionally block uploads.

  • Open a Private/Incognito window

  • Log into Second Skin

  • Try uploading the image again

This often resolves issues caused by stored cookies or plugins.

4. Check your internet connection

If your connection drops or slows during upload, the file may fail partway through.

  • Try a different Wi-Fi network

  • If possible, switch to mobile data

  • Avoid uploading large files on very weak connections

5. Disable any VPNs

VPNs can interfere with our upload service by blocking or slowing the connection.

  • Turn off your VPN (if you use one)

  • Refresh the page

  • Try uploading again

If you rely on a VPN, try switching to a different server or provider.

6. Make sure your file size isn’t too large

Large images can take a long time to upload or may be rejected.

  • Aim for images under 5Mb where possible

  • If your image is huge (e.g., 6,000px wide), try reducing the size/resolution before uploading

Almost all phones have a built-in “resize” or “save as medium/large” option

7. Use a supported file format

Second Skin accepts standard image formats. Make sure your files are:

  • JPG / JPEG

  • PNG

  • HEIC (may need converting on some devices)

If your image is in another format (e.g., TIFF, RAW), re-save it as JPG.

8. Try a different browser or device

Sometimes the issue is device-specific.

  • If you’re on a phone, try using a laptop

  • If you’re on Safari, switch to Chrome or Firefox (or vice-versa)

This is especially helpful if browser extensions are interfering.

9. Log out and back in again

A simple refresh of your session can fix upload token errors.

  • Log out

  • Close the browser

  • Reopen and log in again
